Vol. VII, Issue 2
On Saturday, June 27, Benefits Access will be enhanced with additional or expanded functionality. The new features will include:
Benefits Access will be unavailable on Saturday, June 27 during the enhancement.
Benefits Access users currently can only change their password when prompted by the system that their password has expired. The new functionality will allow users to change their password at any time. In addition, users who have forgotten their password will be able to request a new one through Benefits Access. A new password will be generated and sent to users’ e-mail address on file.
After the enhancement, users will receive additional notifications when their password is about to expire (passwords are configured to expire after 90 days, at which time they must be changed). Notifications will begin appearing 10 days before the expiration date and continue appearing until the password has been changed.
The “Quick Find” feature will be enhanced to allow conferences to locate the records of deceased participants and associate individuals, such as surviving spouses. Under existing functionality, conferences must use the “Advanced Search” feature to search for these participants’ records.
The General Board has implemented a new policy regarding the overpayment of plan contributions for lay and clergy participants. This new policy, which follows the provisions of IRS Revenue Procedure 2008-50, will become effective July 1. We have implemented this policy to improve our financial stewardship by reducing administrative expenses.
A notice summarizing these changes will be mailed with the July UMPIP contribution remittance reminders (bills) to churches and other plan sponsors in early July.
The General Board strongly encourages plan sponsors to report compensation changes and terminations prior to their effective dates.
As you probably know, many retirees receive their pension payments via direct deposit instead of checks. However, some still are not taking advantage of this free, convenient service. We will be sending the attached insert, which promotes direct deposit, to these retirees with their July pension checks.
