General Conference 2016 Update—Summary of Plan Changes

General Conference 2016 approved several changes related to the Clergy Retirement Security Program (CRSP) and Comprehensive Protection Plan (CPP). This high-level summary lists the key changes along with their potential impact, if any, for annual conferences and local churches. The effective date for all changes for both plans is January 1, 2017.

The key plan changes previously reviewed with conference benefits personnel in Conference Forums, benefits officer association meetings, conference calls, and other settings were all approved. Additionally, General Conference added an amendment to the CPP legislation to “grandfather” the retiree death benefit for a selected small group of clergy who will be losing CPP eligibility. This amendment is described in the summary.
