New Wespath Websites Launch This Week

Wespath’s two re-designed websites—Wespath.org for Wespath Benefits and Investments and Wespath.com for Wespath Institutional Investments—launch Friday, December 6. As previously communicated in the October 23, 2019 On Board Express, the new sites are designed to be easier to navigate and more user-friendly with a mobile-compatible design.

In addition, a separate section of the website is devoted to Plan Sponsors, offering a centralized location for logins, forms and plan and program information.

An e-blast will be sent to participants on Monday, December 9 communicating the highlights of the redesigned Wespath Benefits and Investments site.

If you have questions about the new Wespath websites, contact Lisa Drew at ldrew@wespath.org or 1-847-866-4111.

Hardship Withdrawal Suspension Changes

Due to changes in the Internal Revenue Code, participants who receive a hardship withdrawal from the United Methodist Personal Investment Plan (UMPIP) or the Horizon 401(k) Plan (Horizon) after December 31, 2019 will no longer be suspended from making personal retirement plan contributions.

Currently, participants who receive a hardship withdrawal from UMPIP or Horizon are suspended from making personal contributions to those plans or any other plan maintained by their plan sponsor for six months. Participants are, therefore, ineligible for matching or conditional contributions during the suspension period.

While this suspension will no longer apply for participants receiving hardship withdrawals on or after January 1, 2020, participants who receive a hardship withdrawal from UMPIP or Horizon before January 1, 2020 will still be suspended for the full six-month period.

If you have questions, contact Sue Peterson at speterson@wespath.org or 1-847-866-4229.
