Today is Earth Day, an annual global demonstration of support for environmentalism. In celebration, Wespath sent a special email to participants focused on environmental health and climate action.
The email features summaries of the two stories detailed below, a video message from Wespath General Secretary and CEO Barbara Boigegrain and Chief Investment Officer Dave Zellner, and an update from Wespath's internal "Green Team."
The full participant update is available here.
Today Wespath joined 10 other UMC agencies in releasing the statement, "Our Climate Commitment to Net-Zero Emissions." The statement outlines the group's pledge to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050. The group acknowledges its responsibility to urgently address and respond to the unfolding climate crisis and states it is "called by our faith, informed by science, and led by our relationships with impacted communities."
The full statement is available here. A press release and additional information is available here.
Wespath joined the United Nations-convened Net-Zero Asset Owner Alliance (Alliance) in 2020, pledging alongside members of the Alliance to achieve net-zero emissions in its investment funds by 2050. Alliance members are now setting near-term targets for achieving emissions reductions at certain intervals. Accordingly, Wespath just released its first interim targets for 2025!
Our latest Investment Insights blog post details these targets, Wespath's leadership in the Alliance and our net-zero transition investment approach. Please read it here.
