Catamaran Combines with OptumRx—Deal Completed July 23, 2015

Catamaran’s intent to combine with OptumRx, the pharmacy care services unit of UnitedHealthcare, was announced in the April 1, 2015 HealthFlex Express. Initially anticipated by year-end, combining the business operations recently received formal regulatory/final approval, effective July 23. The combined company will operate as OptumRx.

Catamaran is HealthFlex’s pharmacy benefits management (PBM) vendor partner.

The Center for Health will keep plan sponsors informed of transition/participant communication plans and timing for the “brand shift” to OptumRx over the coming months.

The combined company’s scale, technology resources and innovation are aimed at providing superior consumer-focused service with lower costs.

• Both companies use the same claims processing system, so HealthFlex participants should experience a seamless transition from Catamaran to OptumRx.
• Participants will not need to change retail pharmacies to remain “in-network.” Participants may even have expanded access to retail pharmacies in certain geographic areas.
• No immediate changes are anticipated to the mail-order prescription process.

Participant Mailing This Week—HQ Postcard

This year’s HealthQuotient (HQ) wellness incentive period begins Saturday, August 1 and runs through Wednesday, September 30. A promotional postcard will be mailed to all HealthFlex participants this week.

Participants and covered spouses must complete the HQ between August 1 and September 30, 2015 to avoid paying a higher medical plan deductible in 2016—$250 higher (individual deductible) or $500 higher (family deductible with spouse in HealthFlex). For households with a primary participant and spouse in HealthFlex, both covered individuals must take the HQ during the incentive timeframe to avoid the higher deductible.

A reminder postcard will be mailed in September to those who have not taken the HQ to date. Additional HQ reminders will be provided through Evive Health with preventive or chronic disease management reminders sent to participants in August or September. Targeted e-mails also will be sent via WebMD and Virgin Pulse.

We encourage plan sponsors to use the July 2015 Communications Toolkit materials to remind participants about the HQ. Toolkit materials are available on the General Board’s extranet (username: extranet; password: gbop!123).
