Important COVID-19 Coverage Information for HealthFlex Participants

As the Department of Health and Human Services extends the COVID-19 public health emergency period, HealthFlex will continue to offer coverage for COVID-testing and treatment. The emergency period has currently been extended to January 13, 2022, and we expect it may be extended again. This means:

As you may recall, a temporary rule passed in early 2020 allows high deductible plans (HealthFlex HSA plans) to cover all telehealth at 100% ($0 copay) regardless of the reason for the service. Relying on this rule, HealthFlex has covered all MDLIVE® online consultations with a $0 copay. The temporary rule officially sunsets at the end of 2021. This means that, starting January 1, 2022, a copay will apply to any MDLIVE online consultation that is not considered preventive care (which can always be covered at 100% without a deductible) or COVID-19 treatment (which, as noted above, will be covered at 100% as long as the Department of Health and Human Services extends the COVID-19 public health emergency period). However, we are hopeful that Congress or the Biden administration will take action to extend the temporary rule that allows high deductible plans to cover all telehealth at 100%. HealthFlex hopes to continue to extend the $0 copay for telehealth with the emergency period as well.
